Since the European Communities (Reception Conditions) Regulations 2018 came into effect on the 30th of June 2018, the Minister for Justice has granted over 3,100 labour market access permissions. One of the key provisions of the regulations is to give individuals who are seeking international protection greater access to the labour market.

In a response to a parliamentary question from Westmeath’s Deputy Peter Burke, the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection has detailed the number of claims made under the Treatment Benefit Scheme by self employed individuals since the scheme was extended to cover s-class PRSI contributors in 2017.
