150 new jobs are being created over the next five years at Meissner Filtration Products in Castlebar, the manufacturer is opening a new facility in the Mayo town. The new roles are to include manufacturing jobs, quality and regulatory roles, engineering positions, and customer service appointments.
The company plans to be operational in the first quarter of 2020. In order to achieve this goal Meissner will take advantage of a brand new existing 34,000 square foot 'Advanced Technology Building' which was constructed by the IDA. The company plans to ultimately expand the facility to 100,000 square foot. As part of the expansion plans, the company has purchased adjacent lands.
The US firm intends to kit-out a state of the art clean-room within the existing facility. It will be used for the manufacture of Single-Use Systems (SUS), part of the companies bio-pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical operations.
On Friday, the company's founder, Chris Meissner, explained that the availability of a new 34,000 square foot facility significantly reduced the set-up time for its Irish expansion, this, allied with the available talent in the town, was a major factor in choosing the Mayo site for expansion. The site has been chosen following a detailed analysis, by the company, of a number of possible sites around Europe.
